For the past twelve years, Master Rodriguez has set the standard for Taekwondo tournaments. He was the first to use a holding area used to pair up and organize divisions, arm bands for spectators and competitors, and pre-registration. He was the first to use mats for the rings, electronic scoring and a web site not only to post information but also for online registration.
Ray’s South Florida Taekwondo Championship is for all ages and belt levels and is usually held in the Spring between April and June. Some of the best competitors from around the U.S. and abroad attend this annual event and many use it as a tune up for the Junior Olympics and National Taekwondo Championship. Since 1993, this tournament usually brings in around five hundred competitors. All matches are done on matted rings (8m x 8m) and electronic scoring is used. All matches are two rounds and finals and semi-final matches are three rounds. This tournament is very organized and well run. If you have never attended this event, make plans to make it. You will not be disappointed.
Ray’s Florida State Black Belt Festival is a tournament meant to be enjoyed by everyone involved. Competitors, coaches and spectators can enjoy elite Taekwondo competition at its best. All matches are done on official size rings (12m x 12m) using puzzle mats and electronic scoring. The main focus of this event is to give Black Belt competitors and their coaches an opportunity to compete under the best possible conditions and give them the experience necessary for them to excel at the National and International level. Spectators also get an opportunity to see all the matches since there are fewer rings. The electronic scoring gives them an opportunity to be in the match. Typically between one hundred fifty and two hundred black belts come annually to the event and every year we are getting more participation from other states and many countries abroad. If you are serious about competition than this an event you want to put on your calendar.
